Melanie Potter Workshop Description
String Quartet Collar by Melanie Potter
STRING QUARTET COLLAR

The word quartet is derived from the Latin word quartus which means a group or set of four. This collar is created by stringing a group of four beads off-center of each row along five layers using needle and thread. The last layer increases in bead size and gives it a bold finish. An innovative technique of netting combined with right-angle-weave are the stitches used in this piece. The strands across each quartet are small Japanese seed beads that give it a lacey effect. The closure is a sterling silver hook and eye attached using clam shell findings. The larger beads are 3 and 4mm faceted Czech gold-luster glass giving it a glittery appearance. The collar can be created in one color, two colors or four colors depending on the bead placement. This workshop is great for any beader and takes about 6 hours.

I also love the play on words with the terminology String Quartet. A String Quartet is a classical musical ensemble of four string instruments which brings forth delicate notes leading to a delightful experience enjoyed by the listener. The process of beading this piece also brings forth a delightful experience and the end result is a delicate collar that lays gently along the base of the neck delighting the wearer with a experience of glamour. I sincerely hope you enjoy it!
